>>41261891 I genuinely fucking hate this design choice because it can be mitigated to be far more friendly to the player and keep its secrets far better with a single obvious change that the dunderheads at Game Freak couldn't figure out. If gyms just made it so new species and higher levels spawned into the wild area rather than just having everything out in the open at once, the wild area automatically becomes loads more interesting because going back there would show you things you haven't seen therefore making each trip back feel like it's brand new. Instead you get to see every pokemon in the wild area and even engage them, but the game just cucks you and says "No no no, fun isn't allowed here!" Not only that but it makes the wild area something to work towards. If you wanted all the pokemon in the wild area, you would need to beat the gym. It puts extra incentive behind playing the fucking game.
Another thing I wish the wild area was better at is being alive. The pokemon are all robotic and don't react to their environment. It would be cool to see two pokemon squabbling and having them spot you and engage you in a double battle.
It was also the perfect opportunity to bring back the gen 7 rotom photo stuff. If the pokemon actually interacted with their environment there could be an NPC that gives you rewards based on the photos you take ala Pokemon Snap
The Wild Area had none of this though. It's as shallow as it is barren.
