Plus, think of how much bullshit you have to do just to get a competitive team in Pokemon. They've definitely made it way better this time around, but think about all of Pokemon and all the unnecessary tedium

Why would it be cheating? What other series requires you to jump through dozens of hours of single player hoops, just to have a hope of competing in a competitive/tournament environment? It would be like if in Counter Strike, the AK47 only scored a one-shot-kill headshot 30% of the time, until you'd grinded through the prescribed amount of arbitrary single player bullshit.

Now, it IS cheating to do this for single player purposes, but 1. who cares? and 2. these games are so easy a five year old could beat them, so who cares if you cheat?

Of course it's cheating, altering contents of the game via an outside source automatically is. You're also intended to do the work to build up your Pokemon and cheating to bypass it.

But, since the end result has no advantage over somebody doing things the normal long way, I don't really care.

So you don't think RNG manipulation is cheating? All the tools are external, it just help you to be at the right time at the right place to get 6 IV pokemon

This is one of those things I'd say is equivalent to jaywalking. It's illegal, but as long as you're not a fucking retard about it no one will care. If you choose to do it for your own playthrough all you're doing is making it less fun for yourself, and if you do it for competitive play, as long as you make sure the mons are "legitimate," no one will even know.

In my personal opinion IVs are a fucking dumb mechanic anyway and I would hope that no one actually puts the time into getting them perfect without editing.

The game basically has two goals: collect them all, and become the very best. Injecting throws the first half of that out the window and almost cuts out the challenge to the other. If you just want to battle with perfect teams, go to Smogon. You might as well program a bot to play the game for you like POGO spoofers do. What's left to enjoy?
