Pokemon is for ten-year-olds, Gens 5 and 6 were the only games designed with older teens in mind, but GF abandoned that idea and made Sun and Moon, Let's Go, and Sword and Shield for ten-year-olds again so they can put out low-effort games that will sell ten million or more regardless.

What does hard mode even mean? The point of pokemon is adventuring with your bros. Want hard mode? Box the starter, start with route 1 rodents, bugs, delibird and other trashmons.

Hard mode that increase amount of pokemon trainers have and their levels just forces you to use certain pokemon. Remember Lance's dragonite in gen1? If you don't have water pokemon that can ice beam, or ice pokemon you're toast. Your other option is to grind grind grind grind until you're 5 levels higher than his dragonite.

Hard mode could just mean better movesets, and probably more Pokemon on each trainer, forced Set mode. By late game, the opposing trainers have movesets akin to Battle Tower. It's the difference between "do whatever the fuck you want" and "build something that resembles a well balanced team with well thought out moves". As of now, the game requires zero of the latter.

I've been playing white 2, still on regular difficulty, and had some issues with the postgame trainers that have 5 pokemon that usually follow a theme (one was a sun team) but I feel like that was more because my entire team is weak to fire and grass. What pokemon really needs are scaling levels so that if you grind to level 20 before the first gym, you're met with level 20 or higher pokemon with better moves.

I literally did box my starter and use a full team of stuff I caught on route 1 with the only exception being falinks who only knew 1 good move.

Obstagoon, corviknight, and orbeetle were MVPs and the game was way too easy and fast and I got overleveled without even fighting any wild pokemon at all.
