I like raising my Pokémon, I like breeding them for good stats, I like collecting bottle caps, heart scales, PP Ups, and such to maximize their potential.
These items are excellent ways to incentivize and encourage players to engage in the game's various content, such as minigames like the Pokeathlon or growing berries to make juice like in the Juice Shoppe in X/Y. "QoL changes" that make this unnecessary isn't good, it's killing the game and dumbing it down.

"Competitive" play is literally the most pointless part of the games as it involves no progression whatsoever.
