The succes of the Wii in the console war made nintedo fan defensive about casualisation, since it was the argument that sony and microsoft fan were using against us to delegitimise nintendo. Since Bw sold themself as a more mature reboot of the franchise, pepole were pissed because unlimited use for TM seemed broken.

Of all the things to complain about, this just makes the least amount of sense. If anything, they should've complained about how every Pokémon can learn fucking Flamethrower, Thunderbolt and Ice Beam even if the moves don't fit them at all. Literally why can Zoroark learn Flamethrower, for example? But the TMs are what people complained about? Idiotic.

Permanent TMs made the games more casual, and that is an indisputable fact. You can go moan all day as long younlike about "muh QoL", but having permanent TMs LOWERS the difficulty and now treats TMs as an infinite resource to give mons powerful utility they shouldn't have right off the bat. The feeling of reward for working towards getting a TM, whether it be through gym battles or discovering them in the overworld is now gone, there is no decision making in deciding what moves to give to who. As someone who had an issue with infinite use TMs, I find it hilarious since this is the one game where they wouldn't matter. The only problem with them was the fact that you could use them to unlearn and relearn low PP moves like fireblast, which removes an aspect of difficulty in resource management.

Of course, that only matters in large dungeons or the elite 4. And Swsh lacks both
