Just look at eeveelutions, they are basically just a new form, and it's one of the most hyped mons every gen.

Change up the formula a bit, like have a different type of starter, then spend time focusing on the world.

Hell, even if they just made a shitton of alternate forms for already existing Pokémon, that'd be fine too.

it depends but probably not. Half the fun of each new game is the new pokemon to try out, but if they added a boatload of new items/forms/in-battle-gimmicks then maybe but honestly I'd rather just more pokemon instead of a ton of new shenanigans.
