>>41287856I played SM a year ago and am playing USUM right now since a lot of people say that USUM ruined SM's story. I didn't mind the cutscenes in the first game since I hadn't played a pokemon game in a long time so I really enjoyed the story. Not far enough into USUM's story yet to compare them though.
If you're pirating or prefer a (supposedly) better story, I'd say play SM first. Don't know exactly what content USUM has over SM but if it seems worth it to you, go for it.
