Where you make up for your lack of personality that you should have cultivated in high school and replace it with media fanaticism. These people were too busy being bullied and trying to escape how they felt that they rooted themselves into these pieces of entertainment. It's an escape. They got to be someone else; someone who had friend, rivals, actual people supporting them. All things they wanted so badly to have in reality. To criticise that is to criticise who they are. They can't separate themselves from this safety blanket of fandom.
