It isn't until he kisses ass to the point of him getting goddamn eliminated from the competition. You WANT to see him suffer. And he gets what he deserves when Opal forces him under her arm to be a Gym Leader.

Right before the finals, this fucker wants you to KNOW he's still kicking. You RUINED his life. He's now forced to wear pink, follow an old hag all day, and scrap half of his team because they weren't Fairy type.
He was such a fucking great rival but there should have been more. Definitely not enough screen time and I wish he got more involved in the story.
