Dragon sweeper is just someone who can hit hard with ice moves just as a safety measure. Hrad hitting is either someone who can hit hard with phys stuff like return or body slam or one psychic/shadow ball user. Fas because well, the two biggest threats needing one are pretty fast themselves. Durable can work too

I've gotten fairly lucky with encounters so far in Platinum.

Honestly, I can't wait to get out of Sinnoh. Finishing Diamond killed my motivation to continue for over 4 months.

I did it, got through the Elite 4 pretty easily with Magneton and Typhlosion, only pokemon that I lost was Lapras, may she rest in peace.

Currently running drayano's platinum hack. I have a decent team, but the extra galactic admin fight in the mansion is next, and it's a 2v2 with rival as your partner. It's annoyingly rng since your rival is a shitter and will often lose all 3 of his mons on the first 3 turns, leaving it a 2v1 you have no chance of winning.

Series Clause: “Instead of catching the first Pokémon on each route, you must catch the first Pokémon on each route that is new to the series.”

So that went pretty well? Decided to take a risk and lead Mankey since he had Rock Tomb. Outsped and OHKO'd the lead Butterfree + Yanma.

Scyther came in, hard swapped to Elekid to take a wing attack but did over half. Got a static paralysis though! Went Lapras, and it U-turned into Heracross...

Which apparently didn't have a fighting move? Or maybe it was scarf. Regardless, it spammed Bug Bite and died. Pinsir came out, which DID have a fighting move [Vital Throw], but between some heals and Confuse Ray, took it down. Beedrill was oneshot by Body Slam [lol] and Scyther got Parafused and Ice Sharded into oblivion.

Lapras is easily my early-game MVP right now. I hope Whitney doesn't change that..

From what I've heard, the original creator of DeSmuME was a douche, and that FAQ is outdated. I don't know if it changed devs or what, but gen 4 and 5 play perfectly fine on the emulator and have for a pretty long time.

I've used the emulator for years and never had issues, always worked fine and never had any big crashes or anything.

Gotcha; I'll just use it then. Planning on doing LeafGreen first anyways. I linked the thread because it's stickied, and the forums and FAQ are the only things I had to go off of. Them just being outdated seems par for the course though.

I fucking whited out in pokemon sword.
It's the hardest mainline pokemon game for me because of how high levelled the wild encounters are.
Even trainers in the same route have lower levels.
Trying again from the beginning.

Just started my first crystal nuzlocke run, forgot I was playing a nuzlocke and killed one of my encounters, just a bell sprout but still. Current squad just before bell tower
>Asahi the Cyndaquil lvl 9

>Ali the Caterpie lvl 6

You should have 6 encounters at that point, not 3?

-Starter
-Route 29
-Route 46 (north of route 29)
-Route 30 (north of Cherrygrove)
-Route 31 (north of Route 30)
-Dark Cave (entrance is on Route 31)
-Route 32 (south of Violet City)

Plus Sprout Tower.

Are you sure you didn't kill 3 encounters, or accidentally skip Route 31 and Route 46? Make sure to check your map for route info if you're unsure.

If you didn't encounter on Route 46, you can get Geodudes there. Solid for Whitney. I think you can also get them in Dark Cave, but Zubat is the common encounter there.

Guys, I just had my first death I actually give a shit about.

So what's the play here, train Manny for Low Kick or, and I'm guessing this is better, Blaze until Metal Claw? I don't recall exactly when you get Metal Claw but I think it's around when you evolve into Charmeleon, so I guess I'll just go kill bugs in Viridian Forest.

From what I remember it learns Metal Claw at 13. Mankey gets Low Kick at 6 and Karate Chop at 11. Honestly I'd grind up both. Butterfree also wouldn't be a bad option since only his Onix has a rock move and Confusion hits the Geodude p hard thanks to its dismal special defense.

I guess going against him with a lvl 18 starter and lvl 14-16 team members was a death sentence. Yeah, that was the last update after unlocking Kanto in that run before actually fighting Red, so I just marked him as the main goal since I wasn't going to update for every single Kanto gym leader. I took a break to do Ultra Sun when it came out before coming back to it either way.

DragonWolfRooke's runs [NuzRooke, Misfits, Remnants] are fun reads. All are completed, except an ongoing Sun locke.

saberinblue's Apocalypse Johto is a bit mature but a very dramatic and exciting read. 900+ pages, but I don't think they ever finished.

YinDragon's FireRed Kickass mode is a comedic run but balances it out nicely, solid read, completed.

Ky-Nim's Myths of Unova is easily in my top 3. Absolutely amazing run. Initial pages are a bit eh but it gets vyer, very good. Completed.

Mewitti's Alterity is also in my top 3. Gorgeous style, great worldbuilding, all around solid run. Incompleted but still updating, just slow going.

I'm not big on Screenshot runs, but literally anything by Manic in the Nuzlocke forums is golden. He's an amazing storyteller.

I decided to look at my pokemon in PKHex after my run was finished. I was looking at a Geodude I used for about ten levels early on in Soulsilver (to beat Faulkner) and it had fucking 255 EVs in defense.

Hard life is honestly the best I've ever read. The humor, the guilt, the whole band of brothers on the run vibe. It might be one of the best pokemon comics written, straight up.

I'm reccing 'burning down the sky' on deviantart, it's about 200 pages, the story's just a more fleshed out soul silver but the art is kino as hell.

Also Burning Bridges. Short but the secret is in the side comics. The world building is at Alternity's level, and the starter/trainer relationship is as heartwarming as you can get. Kanto is Ireland by the way.

Not explicitly cheating, but against the spirit. Plus experience is a limitless resource, and the time you 'saved' by redistributing trainer experience was probably lost by simply redoing the fights, and you should've just fought wild mons.

Super clean fight; Rocky Boi's Rock Throw OHKO the bird, swapped Viktor into a Water Gun and two shot Wartortle with Vine Whip, then swapped into Blaze, ate a disable, two hit Kadabra with Ember and two hit Raticate eating some light damage.
The killing blow on Raticate was an overkill crit too; fitting.
Feeling good now though, since Rocky Boi just evolved will rock Lt. Surge's world.

It's just the regular small sprites used in boxes and status screens.

Not really sure what mons to drop. Vikavolt is a monster, but keeping it for my Sun/Moon or Ultra Moon run might be a good idea.
Vespiquen probably should stick around, getting a female Combee in Diamond is not exactly something I can rely on.
Of course, the always on Exp Share does allow me to have a functional team of more than 6 mons, so as long as I don't go overboard with it, I can have a stable of mons.

You dont, Elm just gives you an everstone to see it
Its not a terribly OP pokemon anyway so no harm in keeping it. You need to decide if it will count as an encounter for violet city (where you got) or wherever it hatches though

Made it through the Rock Tunnel uneventfully, and caught a Zubat. Whoopie.
Didn't encounter anything in the route right before (where you surf down to the power plant) so I can come back with a better rod and try for a Horsea or something there as well.
Feeling very good about the trained mons in my team, but still pretty uneasy about the typing. Hoping I can find something soonish that'll shore up the typing without resorting to Gyarados.

I do it like this:
1. Try to encounter random wild mon in the grass.
2. However, if an overworld mon jumps me while I'm doing this, i catch the overworld mon.
In the wild area specifically, I allow Dens/Raids as the encounter, but only if I get to one through the grass around them without dodging either grass or overworld mons. However, if a mon get KO'd in a fight in a den, they are considered just as dead as they usually are.
Skylark and Tak are the den mons I caught so far. Tak is really only on the team thanks to my Galar rule that I mentioned last thread.

Don't underestimate Grant [the second gym leader]. He may only have 2 mons, but his Tyrunt is a pain in the ass. The final Lysandre fight, the mid-late game fights with Calem/Serena, and the Champion fight are all pretty decent too.

But for the most part, its not the major battles that are scary. It's the random trainers, namely the double battles. Honestly? Would lowkey advise to avoid what double battles you can, along with sky battles.

Also, Reflection Cave as a whole is legit terrifying. LOTS of fighting type trainers. Try to prep for those before going in.

The Tyrunt isn't horrible if you have Amaura with Return and you've ridden your bike long enough. Water types also make quick work of Grant's team. I'd suggest Luvdisc, it's fishable from two routes and your only available fully evolved Water Type at that moment.

We're also doing each individual segment, and we're trying to get them in the max raid battles if possible. Occassionally we see something in the grass and try to go for it, but by and large, we want to get the most out of this new game feature, and since we've got limited catches, it just makes sense. I'll say this now, it's led to some awkward walking in areas we haven't had a raid battle in yet just trying to avoid ANYTHING.

Where I'm at right now team wise for my hg nuzlocke. Can't believe I got stantler. Wanted it pretty badly. But couldn't land the Magnemite I wanted.

At ecruteak city gym right now and Morty's Gengar has me nervous. I'm Lvl 25 across the board and I foolishly dropped astonish off stantler without thinking. Crobat has bite but it's rash and weak defensively anyway. Any suggestions on what to do here? Was thinking train up Eevee to Umbreon but I wanted it for Espeon or Jolteon since it's timid. Or else is overlevel basically my no.1 option?

Yeah I mean natures are just bonuses when they line up, not horribly important. But they are a little if your mon only learns special attacks and takes a minus to spa. Quilava could maybe take it but gengars spa is like 120 so a shadow ball could do real damage, super effective or not. I think I'm going to run with the Magikarp I've got and level it to a Gyarados who should get bite and just hammer down the Gengar. Plus slowpoke is the water mon I want so I won't cry if I lose gyarados.

Team would probably be Charizard, Golem, Victreebell, Beedrill in either iteration, and then either Kingdra and Jolteon or Dewgong and Dragonite.

So I've been thinking of doing a "Gauntlet run", where when entering a new area with trainers (ie. a route, cave or gym), you must save, and then get to the next Pokemon Centre in one go, without going back to heal at the last centre. If you wipe out, you restart to your save point (so you reset the trainers you beat). Think of it like Dark Souls bonfires.

Sounds good in my head, but not sure if it will play out well.

Forgot how open this game was. Had Simon and Blaze farm Erika's Gym for easy experience, caught a few mons, cleared Team Rocket's Game Corner hideout, and now I guess I either go to Saffron or the tower in Lavender. Hoping Viktor learns another grass type move soon because I've got a leaf stone to evolve him now. Still need the flute, which I think is in Saffron. Don't remember, but I've got some options so I'm in no rush. Starting to think about using some of my TMs, but gonna hold off a little longer. The toughest mon I've fought recently was Giovanni's Kangaskhan which was like 28, so run of the mill stuff should be fine. Did get a bit of a scare though, Viktor got Mega Punched down to 7HP.

Make your "champion team" based off of all your nuzlockes. Your most memorable Pokemon, aces, mons you didn't appreciate until you nuzlocked with them, etc. and explain your choices. Preferably all champs, and try to have one from one of each of your nuzlockes (unless you've done more than 6 obv)

At first I was just using her to fill an empty spot in my team and I wasn't super happy about it due to her limitted movepool, but god damn she ended up being *THE* Pokemon who saved the entire battle vs Iris. Absolutely clutch moment that I'll never forget. This game made me actually like Meganium (she used Dragon Tail to get rid of Haxorus' buff, oneshot Lapras with a Giga Drain for an HP refill, and then proceeded to mop Haxorus who was in yellow health)

Ghetsis and N completely raped my team but sweetheart managed to come in and clean house when it became clear what my Haxorous couldn't safely set up swords dances. The trial immediately preceding the Totem was easy as shit. The Trial itself was a bit trickier given my weakshit movesets and low levels:
-Wailuku uses Fake Out on Totem Gumshoos.
-Gumshoos hits back with Bite inexplicably giving me the chance to Growl both it and the Yungoos it called up.
-Wailuku Growls again, and a Super Fang from Gumshoos and Pursuit from Yungoos puts Wailuku in the red.
-Lahaina comes in next turn and makes both enemies whiff their Normal type attacks. Based.
-Yungoos uses Pursuit while Gumshoos makes the stupid play with Scary Face. Lahaina's Psywave does jack shit to the Yungoos.
-I risk pulling out Lahaina, which pays off as Haleakala eats Leer but cancels it out with Intimidate. Bite flinches the Yungoos while Gumshoos' Super Fang does its thing.
-Yungoos falls to a crit Ember, but Haleakala takes another Super Fang, which means the next Bite kills in all cases.
-I predict correctly, which means Bite procs Static from Kahului. I get a free Leer next turn.
-Brick Break is traded with Super Fang.
-Another Brick Break meets parahax.
-Brick Break three puts Gumshoos in the red and Pursuit does the same for Kahului. Shit.
-Wailuku tanks another Bite (she's in the yellow now) and goes for Fekkowt next turn.
-Kaupo switches in and eats...Super Fang? What? Shit. I could have gotten greedy and sent in Haleakala for another Intimidate. Perge sed caute is the name of the game.
-Brick Break four from Kaupo FUCKING CRITS and I win. BASED.

Everybody but Makena saw some action (but don't worry Hala's on the way) so nobody got overleveled.

Well I did get my Dratini but it took a lot of fishing and a lot of the Dupes clause saving me from Seakings.
And a fucking Paras. At least I could trade my Nidoran and get a Nidoking with boosted experience rates if I want.
I'm thinking I'm gonna make Evan a zappy boi, but god damn do I wish I had a better option. Anything with Dark, or something bulkier with good typing to tank Ice hits. Could grab Lapras for the latter, but I'm not sure I want the offensive abilities there. Haven't taken either Lapras or a Hitmon yet, so those are both open. Could try for a Dewgong later too, or try to fish up a Horsea.
Gotta take on Koga here in Fuchsia City now I guess, and assuming I get the ability to use Surf on the overworld I think I start surfing towards Cinnabar Island? I don't remember when I do the Slyph Co. though, maybe that's next. Or maybe you get to choose. I'll find out soon enough.

Grand Trial was paradoxically easier than the Normal Totem:
-Kaupo leads with Supersonic against the Dankey. Mankey hits itself in confusion for minimal damage.
-Kaupo wipes the angry simian out with 3 consecutive Echoed Voices, only taking a single (somewhat unimpressive) crit Pursuit in the process.
-Makuhita should have been more tricky. Haleakala's Intimidate is a godsend though.
-Ember v. Sand Attack
-Ember v. Sand Attack
-Ember v. three-hit Arm Thrust
-Ember faints.
-Crabrawler won't do shit against Lahaina. Probably. Psywave strikes for half of Purple Larry's health. Pursuit does about the same, %-wise. That's not good.

-Psywave kills.

Makena once again didn't do shit, but I only used three of my niggas.

Only a couple consecutive crits could do it if they even landed. Minimize Clefable has no hope of losing to Aero. Especially if you can give it BoltBeam or ThunZard.

That being said, you should always be careful about what you're treating as setup fodder.

Platinum is one of if not the hardest non-hack game to Nuzlocke in. You will hate yourself if you do a real Nuzlocke. Do a halfer where you can only catch one Pokemon per area, but grinding out levels is fucking miserable, so if a mon dies don't release it.

Using median stats for level 50 off Bulbapedia (yes you'd probably be a little higher but that's harder to guesstimate):
Clefable HP: 179 | Defense: 104 | Speed: 90
Aerodactyl Attack: 136 | Speed: 160
Aerodactyl's going first. Calm Mind provides no benefits here. Aerodactyl doesn't actually have Rock Slide, his move set is Wing Attack | AncientPower | Scary Face | Hyper Beam. A Rock Slide would hit for ~154 on a crit. Not quite an OHKO in this case, but feasibly one, it's close enough that a different stat distribution could push it over.
The real threat isn't the non-existent Rock Slide, but Hyper Beam, which is hitting for 100+ without a crit, and almost certainly OHKOing on a crit.
Now, the chance of this happening with 6 Minimizes down is only ~2%, and still only ~6% without the Minimizes.
TL;DR: Clefable is unlikely to be OHKO by Aerodactyl, but if you aren't aggressive with healing items there is a significant chance that even a normal Hyper Beam could snag a KO, and any crit is almost certainly going to.

Part 2. I went to get my encounter for the interior of Pinwheel Forest, and I got a double battle with a Timburr and Tympole. Each of them killed one of my pokemon. RIP. Fortunately, I caught the Timburr, evolved him, and beat Lenora (who almost fucked me up). I should note that I removed three of my usual nuzlocke rules to make this run possible.

The Wild Area wants me dead.
Went to North lake Miloch to catch another mon, ended up meeting a Purrloin.
Wendy Koopa wears it down quite a lot, but it won't stay in the pokeball. It also keeps spamming Hone Claws. Assurances finally comes out, and two of them doesn't hurt too bad. But then it scores a crit and I have to either risk running or throwing another ball. I decide to try running, and Wendy is taken out by the cat everyone makes fun of.
I send in Miss Bonbon next- even with the exta attack, Purloin doesn't do too much once a resistance gets into the mix, and I actually snag it on the second turn Bonbon is in.
Considering the main reason I was leveling Wendy was to use her against Kabu... this sucks.
