That's how the casual playerbase works. My friend bought Sun to play with me and he put the game down after beating the E4 without even touching the Tree, Poni Gauntlet, or the UB quest. It wasn't that he even disliked the game, we played the whole thing together, trading exclusives, battling before trials, etc., and we had a great time. But once they see the credits roll the game's over for them if they're a casual player. They couldn't care less about what they'll think in a month, because what they'll think in a month is nothing due to forgetting the game existed while they play LoL or whatever other online game is popular right now. That's why they could literally make the game stop after the credits and have no postgame at all after a game that's a hallway and no one would give a fuck except the 100k people who care online (meaning zero dent in the sales too). They could cut everything except Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard, and Magikarp and people would still give it 10/10s.
The amount of content does not matter. The quality of the content does not matter. The replayability does not matter. Price does not matter. The only thing that matters is that they can take a party through and see "Congratulations, Champion!" on that screen. We're not even talking "slave" fans that say things like "well it's Pokemon, I can't just not buy it," this is casual players, 99% of the fanbase for the series.
All that's left for people who want the games to improve is despair.
