First-World culture has devolved to the point that the people who care about this stuff no longer really develop personalities - they attach themselves to popular, marketable brands and make those brands a reflection of themselves in an attempt to try and fake having a personality.
The brand is a piece of them, and they are slaves to it because they refuse to grow on their own as people and instead use pop culture and references as crutches.
