It seems about equal. It’s a 30% drop in sales volume but after a 50% increase in product price. I’m sure it doesn’t actually math out that way in terms of pure profit when taking all they invested into the game into consideration, but I imagine this is going to perform well in line with their expectations, if not more so.

Damn shame, though, it’s only going to continue to convince them that the process of breaking their team in halves or thirds to develop the remakes/enhanced editions/other projects alongside the new gens is a good idea. As long as they keep meeting sales projections, they can do whatever the fuck they want, no matter what fans complain about.

The disparity isn't that much though. People spent a total of $11,700,000 on copies of Sword and Shield and $12,000,000 on SM. This is completely because of the 50% price hike. Sword and Shield despite only moving a bit more than half the units SM did at launch is nearly caught up to it in revenue.

You realize a 35% drop physical is not a 35% drop? Digital sales are a lot higher on switch than 3ds. It has a lot more storage and stores sell digital codes prominently now. When I went to buy Luigis mansion recently they had a ton of digital buy cards on the shelf at Wal-Mart.

766 points is enormous but Sword and Shield actually has even more copies sold than the points let on because the double pack only counts as '1' point, whereas it's the equivalent of 2 games being sold meaning that Sword and Shield actually hits around 990 points on COMG and that's despite digital being more prevelant these days, especially on the Switch which Nintendo has confirmed has a ridiculous amount more digital only buyers than their other platforms.
Can't wait till the Jap numbers come out properly though, they're going to be fucking huge.

It really isn't impressive, though, Launch sales mean shit when it comes to Pokemon. LGPE had "the most impressive launch" of 2018 yet it still only sold 11 million copies. Swoosh's sales might be impressive now but we'll have to wait and see if it has any legs to stand on.
