Sonia got plenty of screen time, more than most characters, but she really doesn't do anything until post game. Until then all she did was look at pictures and statues, and then give info that didn't actually matter at all.

Even in the main story you see her gradually take more interest in her work and get more confidence. Her problems mostly lie with the plot itself being boring and her hogging screentime(though not as much as Hop), but her personal journey was fine.

I was more referring to the fact that she's largely used to info dump the main story's lore, but in the end we still know literally nothing about the Dark Day or why Rose was willing to seemingly destroy parts of the region and kill people to solve a problem that won't exist for a thousand years, making Sonia's little expositions pointless.
