I'm wondering: has anyone purposely let themselves lose to Hop in the postgame match with him? Is there a separate scene he gets where he's actually happy? I just feel really bad.

Don't feel bad for Hop. He brought it on himself. You're not the villain, you're a life lesson. Hop spends his entire time thinking he's going to be a champion just because his brother is, like it's in his blood. He loses to Bede and just sulks for a bit like a spoilt kid being told "no". You're a good thing in his life, because you bring him back down to earth.

That was Bede, the entire back half of the game (including the Post-Game) has Hop gradually rebuilding himself from a critical defeat, it literally takes him capturing Zamazenta/Zacian to finally get over the loss properly.

Leon was promoted to Head of the Battle Tower and possibly is the new Chairman of the Galar Region League or at least has some sort of advisory role, it fits his character since Leon mentions towards the end about having the player fulfill his shoes much like how he'll have to take the place of Rose or find an equivalent

That was also Bede's (although also Chairman Rose through indirect manipulation) fault, he didn't have to attack that mural

The player basically had no relevance to Marnie's plot, given that Marnie basically had no plot since from beginning to end she'd accepted becoming the next Gym Leader if she didn't become Champion

Hop is a retard and I fucking hate him, I just can't feel bad for him losing when he doesn't contribute ANYTHING to the double battles you do together.
Not only does he start the battle with his useless sheep pokemon, he then sends out corviknight and uses SCARY FACE when he could've ohko'd the opponent.
It felt good to see how broken the guy was at the end of the postgame, knowing he will never be a good pokemon trainer and giving up entirely.
