They eventually became the hired help of Aether to steal Pokemon for them. Team Yell is just Piers' gym staff who wants to block out Marnie's competition just so she can become Champion. They even become allies by the time you beat Piers. Yell is not a villain team; they are just an annoyance.
This is ironic since the least evil team uses all Dark-type Pokemon.
As for not wanting to be a child, do note that being one is tied to the plot and feel of the game. The entire structure of the game has to be changed to make the main character and any of his rivals adults.
