I honestly think its bad. Sound design sucks, I cant remember even one song from the entire game. Characters have no depth. Short gameplay, nothing to do after you beat it. Handholding is at its strongest. Some designs are good but Im not paying for that. Overworld is a nice idea but its not executed very well.

The game is fun. I don't care about Nat dex. It is "handholdy" only in that it heals you before/after gym and rival battles. Exp share is decently balanced. I haven't been overleveled and wild Pokemon often surpass my level.

The games soundtrack takes a very ambitious task of including a great variety of sounds to be birthed out of the UK. Like british invasion rock & jungle, sounds that have previously dressed british scenes in movies like harry potter, as well as folk sounds like celtic flutes and bagpipes. There's also hints to big historical moments for britian like the medieval and industrial era, with their own respective locations. The challenging part is to have this all come together in a consistent manner. The standard way to write movie scores and video game osts has been to write a motif, or build a soundscape, and then have that be the sonic identity of the entire soundtrack, with contextual variations. The SS ost blatantly disregards any attempt at this, and instead uses the contrast between each piece as its strength. For example when you go from the mountain town with the fighting gym, to the mystical dark forests on the way to the fairy gym. Or when you go from an early route to the town with the first gym. Each place has its own identity to set itself apart rather than bind everything together. Most suprisingly of all, it's done without the typical cliches of japanese pop composition where jazz fusion tropes run rampant and glues everything together (which is a first for the series). The soundtrack gives a very linear game a sense of discovery, which is impressive in and of itself.
