what the fuck do i run on this guy. hes so cool but move pool seems shitty. not looking for anything competitive, just useful for playing through the game. so not gonna use him as a wall cause you dont need one for the story.

It was fine for me just using Brave Bird and Steel Wing. I kept Taunt on it too and surprisingly it saved my ass but only for like one battle.

Roost is worth it if possible, you can get it from breeding a Rookidee to pass it in the Nursery. Most mons learn it late this Gen however, and item healing is generally fine. Defog is breeding only but not worthwhile ingame, generally. Solid mon overall, though, both competitively and as a playthrough bro. I’ve been loving it since Route 1.

Anyone else pissed that Zamazenta doesn't get Body Press? Seems like a no-brainer but the only decent fighting move it gets iirc is Close Combat, which renders it's ability moot

Shield is in my opinion the superior version in a lot of ways, and Zam's design is imo better than Zac, but the latter is so much better in combat/competitively it infuriates me

You could take, for example, a Pelipper or an Unfezant male with a Roost and breed it with a Rookidee to get that egg move. Then you could “pass” Roost to your main Corviknight by putting it and the bred mom with the move into the Nursery together. You might have to evolve the Rookidee, but I’m not positive about that. The major downside here is that Roost is generally learned in the 40s or 50s for a lot of Pokémon now.

Tough to do that without Spikes, Stealth Rock, or Whirlwind. Corviknight is pretty solid competitively even without hazards, but it’s quite different from Skarm. Ingame the best bet is probably boosting with coverage moves and possible Roost or Defog if you feel you need it.

I was led to believe it’s a Psyshock situation where it literally uses Defense to attack, but I am not 100% certain that it’s more like Electro Ball or Heavy Slam without the difference-between-user-and-opponent quirk, where it uses a range of values.

So, I found Bulk Up on a TR trader. Having trouble deciding between Power Trip and Body Press though. It'll still be a while until it gets Brave Bird, but I'm not sure if I should use it without Roost. I guess Bulk Up means Drill Peck should be fine?

On the down side, no roost until Leon.
On the bright side, the same Rookidee from the start will be a viable bird since G-Knight is worse. Iron head it is.

It's like Gyroball.

It uses Defense to calculate the damage of the move, but it still adds on attack I think.

G-Max Wind Rage clears hazards and screens and such from both sides of the field, which isn’t as good as Max Airstream. The Hidden Ability of Mirror Armor has some situational utility, especially for Bulk Up sets that are attacking rather than being more passive walls, but Corviknight is a rare Pokémon that actually makes meaningful use of Pressure. So yes, the first Route Rookidee can be your prime competitor by the end if you re-EV and adjust the moves. Mine is even Impish.

You were correct in your first post, it treats the defense stat of a pokemon using it as the attack stat when using it.

It’s actually a pretty fantastic coverage move for Corviknight. Fighting and Flying are great together, and this is much better than the stat drops of Superpower and Close Combat while operating off its higher Defense as an offensive stat. I’m pleased but not surprised that Bulk Up Corviknight has some competitive merit. Despite its relatively shallow movepool, it seems to have a wide enough variety of different possible sets to keep opponents guessing. It can be a purely defensive wall, control hazards, pivot with U-turn, shut shit down with Taunt, and use Bulk Up with Sub or coverage, making use of strong STAB or the beauty of Body Press, all with Roost to increase its longevity. It’s a strong, versatile Pokémon without being overtuned or broken.
