To me at least, The Force Awakens is closer to Kalos and The Last Jedi is closer to Alola. While there are parts I enjoyed with the former, they generally come off as boring and painfully uninspired enough to be my least favorites in the series. The latter tried to do something different, to varying degrees of success, but they were able to feel fresh and new just enough for me to like them overall.
So I guess The Rise of Skywalker will be glimmers of great ideas amidst a pile of phoned in garbage. A dumpster fire that would be a fitting end to this mess of a trilogy.
