A lot of the people who frequent this board are at least slightly mentally ill (something minor like ADD, ADHD, OCD, etc... at the bare minimum.) Many of them are significantly mentally ill (ie: borderline, bipolar, transgender, etc...)
People with multiple mental illnesses... especially severe ones... tend to be insecure to such a degree that they essentially require constant validation just to remain functioning. They can't handle whenever somebody disagrees with their life choices. Ever wonder why trans "people" feel as though they are being personally attacked any time somebody points out that transgenderism is a mental illness? Ever wonder why these same people tend to also be some of the most oversensitive people in the world if you criticize their other interests? Ever wonder why Tumblr and Twitter are such ridiculous hugboxes, where nary a single word of criticism is ever uttered, and where death threats are issued to the few contrarians that do speak up against certain fandoms?
These people live delusional lives, and they feed off of others' validation. That includes validation by proxy... aka: Herd mentality. They actually *will* feel validated if you buy they game, because they also bought it... probably to distract themselves from their daily lives, which are awful of their own making.
These people are so far gone that they might as well kill themselves. Many of them do, because they KNOW they will never fit into the real world.
