Megas were also a Kalos-only phenomenon before ORAS retconned it. They'll probably do the same again, or just make Gigas under a different name and with different origins, not tied to Eternatus but to Arceus probably.

Because MEGA STONES WERE ONLY FOUNF IN KALOS IN THAT TIMELINE. The ultimate weapon used by AZ hit a meteor or some shit and mega stones were the debris of said meteor. In ORAS, the reason we find mega stones is because those games take place in an alternate timeline where the same meteor also rained its debris over Hoenn
