Remember when Tangela's black parts were supposed to be a mysterious body obscured by darkness so you can't see what it really looks like? They ruined it by fucking making the dark part an actual BLACK BALL with shading and shit. Hell, the "ball" itself looks grey in the 3DS games because of the washed out colors. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A DARK SHADOW, IT SHOULDN'T BE AFFECTED BY LIGHTNING AS IF IT WAS A PHYSICAL OBJECT.

Remember when Jynx was supposed to be an empty black void possessing some clothes and taking the form of a humanoid woman? Remember when Stadium made it clear that Jynx is empty inside the clothes and the whole thing collapses when it faints? Remember how the "black skin" was supposed to be empty space and not actual skin? Remember when the gloves were a lighter shade of black because they were fucking empty gloves and not her hands? They ruined it by misunderstanding their own design and making her "skin" purple. IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE SKIN. GOD.

Why did so many Gen 1 pokemon use the mysterious dark void in their design only to be ruined in the following gens by people misunderstanding the original intent of the designers? Cloyster too. He wasn't supposed to be a literal black ball. The pearl was on his forehead in the oldest sprites, HE wasn't the pearl. Cloyster's "body" was just a dark void that obscured the real appearance of the creature inside. Same with Shellder. BUT NOW THEY ARE ACTUAL FUCKING BALLS THAT LOOK GREY BECAUSE OF THE LIGHTNING, AS IF THEY WERE PHYSICAL THINGS INSTEAD OF A SHADOW.
