It is true that a Pokémon game technically doesn't need 500+ Pokémon to be good, and that's where the Dexit argument falls apart. Do I think that it's lazy of Game Freak not to include all Pokémon and forms internally? Absolutely, though time constraints contribute to this. But their arguments for not including them all through updates or in future iterations holds no water. Still, I could play a Platinum or HGSS mod that changed every wild encounter, overworld encounter, gift, Trainer Pokémon, and Pokédex entry to Bidoof and while that would be a real blow to the games, they would still be pretty good games because they have more than Pokémon going for them. If you did the same to Sword and Shield, the games would be fucking nothing.
