0.5% of roughly 1.4 million sales in japan would still be 7000 broken jap switches alone. It's a few more powers of ten lower than that.
It's a bunch of guys picking up their old, dusty or maybe mistreated switch and it breaks at the first bit more challenging workload it faces. There's also a bunch of switch sales just for pokemon so a handful also just got unlucky and got a faulty switch out of the box.
