No, it's related. GameFreak is better at protraying Japanese culture and forming it into a region than European culture. This is obvious by how many British themed Pokemon didn't make the Galar cut.

I mean shit, the main "theme" of the region is fucking soccer (MUH FOOTBALL) when there are many better cultural themes to use.

Quite literally nobody is complaining about the cultural references in those games tho. All I've heard is XY being bland, but nothing other than that. In fact I've watched a rather unfavorable review from a scot and he said the UK is portrayed well with many subtle nods to the culture

I feel like there’s a lot more detail than you mention that is accurately English. Runerigus and the slumbering Weald hint at ancient British culture, Yell are 80s working class punks, Alcremie and Polteageist hint at Great British Bake Off/Tea Time etc. The sports theme makes sense for the story and region, Alola was small and Galar is big, like stadium big.

Well in Alsace we still have a legendary for us (Zygarde), but there is no Stork in Alsace, nor Marmot in Savoy, the South is erased, et cetera.

Galar and Kalos were both nice regions, it's just that the games in those regions were fucking awful or bland at best.

they just copy/ paste something from the country so you say "oh, it's that thing I know"

they need to take something from history or mythology and reinterpret it for the game's story. Just a little bit of nuance would go a long way

Looking forward to an Irish region. It gives them a chance to redeem themselves with a region that is like England but with more culture and lore. Plus they can only have 1 leprechaun Pokémon and they can’t portray alcohol in a kid’s game, so there’s basically no stereotypes they can abuse like they did with soccer and trains
