OP here, I'm currently using one in my Ruby run hence the thread theme! Caught a Magikarp, Tentacool and Carvahna earlier in my run and I made it through the Mimic Circle grass without an encounter so I thought fuck it, let's try for a Feebas. Managed to land one on my 14th tile! It's currently a lvl 30 Milotic.

Team pictured, just cleared out the Weather Institute.

I used a Milotic in Renegade Platinum last time I attempted Romhack Gens, if that counts. Evolved it p much immediately though so didn't have Feebas long.

Was fun because it was water/fairy. I dont remember exactly how it died, unfort. Think it was to a poison move.

As for training a Feebas, I wouldn't know. Caught it at level 24 and immediately beautifed and Exp Shared it into a Milotic. Milotic solo'd the Weather Institute with Surf though.

Guys... Silver killed two of my Pokemon.
As soon as I beat Bugsy I tried to go into Ilex forest, but I forgot to heal and Silver kicked my ass. It was mainly his Croconaw.
Giggdy got a couple flashes off before getting crit and BENIS died shortly after getting a glare out. I only won because I managed to haxx him to death.
Bros... this hurts...

Also have a wailmer I'm debating using. I think it was sent to the dead box instead of the usable pokemon box accidentally (its the same level I caught it at and has no exp)

Picked up a run I stopped playing a while ago, just beat the Grass Totem.
Will shuffle my team a bit for the Rock Totem, as I have been very fortunate and caught a shitload of viable party members. Initial thoughts are Butterfree/Trumbeak/Golbat OUT, Brionne/Basculin/Mudbray IN.

The best thing about Gen VII is how you're encouraged to use a rotating team to deal with the trials. I had a pool of about 10-12 Pokemon I was swapping in and out of the party and it's incredibly satisfying.

Clefairy turned Clefable was my absolute favorite find. Graveler turned out to be a beast in HG/SS (RIPIP tho) and I have fond memories of my Lillipup turned Stoutland being one of the last ones standing at the end of my BW run.

I just wish Butterfree was more viable. I love the fucker, and so easy and common to get, but just not worth it with the poor status hit chances and bug being weak overall.

Interesting. I've never really seen that kind of playstyle in nuzlocking before. Personally, I always accepted it as part of the challenge to try and make a balanced team, and to make it work with that team against gym/trial/totem fights, rather than pulling specific mons to counter them.

Sounds interesting desu..But also sounds rather... easy? I mean, does Lurantis really stand any chance against a team entirely made of poison/flying types? Might try this in my casual playthroughs though, having a larger pool of teammates sounds fun.

Part of the fun of a nuzlocke (to me) is the random element on the team members themselves. If I've been fortunate enough to get 6 pokemon that wall the shit out of an upcoming challenge, I'm gonna use them.
On the easy part, not using EXP share and all those other rules can balance things out. Totem Lurantis may have been a pushover, but the Totem Araquanid is fucking outrageous. I've had MANY attempts die there.

i want to start a youtube channel with ORAS nuzlocke. since that niche is already occupied by hundreds of youtubers, i thought of making a NU pokemon nuzlocke: i'm allowed to catch any pokemon i encounter, but only one per species and only Pokemon that are NU or below in the smogon 6th gen metagame

Well, since Riptide died, I brought Dewgong onto the squad. Was considering Gyarados, but I think Pinniped's ice typing will help later with Claire and Lance. Also he had a nice nature compared to Gyarados's Mild.

Just hope I don't have any more deaths through the Goldenrod Rocket bullshit. Mostly scared of Ariana. I hope Amphy can handle her Honchkrow.

Fair enough. It does seem like fun, just not my cup of tea. I love a challenge, and custom building a counter team to every threat just breaks that for me, but I can imagine having such a large pool of teammates is exciting.

I guess its just a difference of playstyles, in the end. Honestly, I'll probably be switching out mons constantly when I get to the most challenging portions of my run. I can't imagine beating Photonic Sun without bringing counters to the bullshit it'll dish out.

Ninetales uses Quick Attack, then gets slapped twice by Rock Blast.
Scald finishes it off(without Quick Attack, good luck outspeeding Selphie at +6).

I Dynamax Selphie and fire off a Max Geyser, and Arcanine(who lives, but heavily dented) uses Agility.
to no avail, it turns out, as another Max Geyser ends him.
>Centiskorch G-Max
Centiskorch takes a ton of damage form SR, so I assume Max Geyser will kill. It just barely fails to do so, and the bug fires back with G-Max Centiferno.
Scald ends Kabu.

The Rolycoly line is legitimately great for Nuzlockes, it can soak 2x effective moves with no problem, probably a few 4x ones as well.
Also, if you can predict a Fire move, you get to outspeed pretty much anything if you got a Steam Engine one.

Alright bros I'm gonna do it... I'm gonna try a nuzlocke run and stick to it. I've sorta kinda tried in the past but always pussed out. I'm gonna stick to it no matter what this time. Standard rules. Only catch the first encounter per route (with dupe clause), nickname the pokemon, and when it faints it's going to heck.

Like I said, the pacing between Kabu and Opal is literally flip flopping around. After Opal it streamlines some what though.

Lenora is defeated by Bruce with an assist from Chester. I have also discovered a new problem with this nuzlocke. When I catch a Pokemon with a full team of 6, it heads to the PC and is healed. I would only allow myself to retrieve that Pokemon if I caught it before it was damaged or had the chance to use an attack. I caught a Timburr after damaging it, so I had to release it. This is why a wall in Nuzlocke should be tanky against normal (rock, steel, ghost). Water is great normally and has some solid match ups, but doesn't resist normal type, which happens to be one of the most common and dangerous in most games, despite not being particularly popular among players.

Question regarding the dupe clause: Say I catch Pokemon A, and then Pokemon A dies in battle. If I see another Pokemon A on a new route, do the rules say that I need to catch that pokemon or does that dead Pokemon A still allow me to use the dupe clause to try for a different mon on that route? I know it's all home made rules and shit but I would like to know what tradition says.

I've never seen dupe clause not apply to dead Pokes, but then again I don't really watch much Nuzlocke content.

It's all up to your personal tastes. For the majority, including myself, dead mons are still counted as dupes. However, I've seen a couple people not count it as well, usually for a specific mon because they like that species a lot, or because that mon in particular died really quickly and never got to be used much. Haven't seen anyone discount all dead mons before, but it's always an option.

You can kinda go either which way, all up to you and your own preference.

Finished grinding up my new recruits and finished the Rocket rush in Goldenrod. Giovanni was a little scary, but having a Steelix on the team helped a TON with his normal types.

On my way to Clair now I guess. I have a feeling he's going to continue to pull his weight there, though I'm sure Pinniped will help.

Do a nuzlocke for a game from each region, in the order that the regions were introduced.
For me, I'll be doing Fire Red -> Soul Silver -> Alpha Sapphire -> Platinum -> Black/White -> Black/White 2 -> Y -> Ultra Sun
I might instead stop at BW2 and go for Emerald instead of Alpha Sapphire, but that depends on whether I can figure out how to save edit on my 3ds or not.
The 6 pokemon that make it into the hall of fame can be 'reincarnated' in the next game as eggs. It's a long term endeavour.
Caught the full team before brock, I've done some grinding and am about to attempt the second rival fight.

Pidgeotto and Ivysaur aren't too bad, and they're both slightly overleveled, so I can expect them to last a bit longer hopefully.
It'll take a bit of effort to grind up the Zubat and Magikarp, since they're near impossible to train without switch training. I don't think that the zubat, even when evolved, will make it very far, but I have an oddish in reserves just in case. I might put it in the daycare.
The rattata and mankey are at expected levels, they are good earlygame 'mons from what I've experienced, and they might still be viable after evolution.

Perrserker v. Frosmoth. I use Fake Out, but using it's inner focus it still sets up the hail. Stil goes down to one Ironhead, even after Feather Dancing

It's going to learn Counter, Mirror Coat, Safeguard, and Destiny Bond at level 15 before it evolves, and desu that's the only viable moveset on Wobbuffet, so you're not gonna have a whole lot of move choices

Maybe have Encore instead of Safeguard, I think competitive Wobbuffets do that

This, on the other hand... catching a Zigzagoon after ignoring the forced Pidgey and getting a female Timid Fennekin used up all my good luck. I got Fletchling which would be redundant, a Scatterbug without Compoundeyes, that Abra, Bulbasaur has a shit nature and I'm not using it anyway, a boring Psyduck, and a fucking male Combee that took way too much effort to get. I was so close.So close to overcoming impossible odds and a very unlucky start with four hit crit fury attack. Ace Strap did what he could taking out two pokemon despite being almost dead. I got so close to taking out Eevee and the victory too. With one hp it lands a sand attack. Then Paras missed. And he decided to attack and twist my heart with a knife. Magikarp splashing was just the sad end of this theatre of fuckups.

Will: Swept by Houndoom, for the most part. I think I got lucky that Dark Pulse flinched on the first hit with Gardevoir, cuz I think it had Focus Blast [granted the madlad might've lived it anyways, he survived his rival's Alakazam Focus Blast earlier]

Koga: Gardevoir Psychic'd some shit, Steelix Earthquaked some shit, wasn't that hard.

Bruno: Dumbass spammed Counter while I set up a few Calm Minds with Gardevoir. 6x Psychics and dead. He had to take a hit or two but nothing enough to kill.

Karen: Walrein literally swept her solo. She even got a freeze on the ace Umbreon lmfao. Best investment I've ever made.

Lance: Gyarados and Charizard down to Jolteon, Aero to Steelix, and Walrein bodied everything else [though I did have to do a little switching with Steelix because Outrage hurt like a bitch]

I am. I'm using Snorlax for HM's right now but I'm not really concerned about Victory Road.
I was leaning towards Lapras or Kabutops because I'd like to be able to eat water/ice more comfortably. I think my damage output coverage seems solid, but Rocky Boi can't eat some things because 4x weakness and I don't have a great way to eat Psychic either. Dwynwen will probably help more when she's high enough level though.

Switch training is obnoxious but, to my knowledge, always preferable to training at the level of the lower mon both in terms of safety AND efficiency. At least until you get an Exp Share, which can be a while since in FR/LG you need 50 completed entries in your dex.

I normally don't bother weakening shit until like level 30+ unless I have a sleep/paralysis easily available, in which case I'll use that. Balls are cheap, the possibility of crits is a thing, and unless you're going for something like a legendary catch rates are pretty high anyways.

Oh. Well since the game is pretty open I'm pretty sure you can do the Gyms severely out of order (aside from Brock and Misty), but yeah if you're going for the TM that's rough. I almost never use TM's until I'm about ready to go for the gold just because the fact that they're one time use spooks me, and that goes even for non-nuzlocke runs.

I think this is the fist time I've ever beat Whitney without a Pokemon fainting. I used my rare candy too on Thiccer (Nidorina). I tried to sweep with double kick but Miltank was too tanky, thankfully she got poisoned twice and I could just stall her out with Fisty (Geodude). Fisty got infatuated with attract but he obviously puts bros before hoes since he critted with rock smash immediately after, finishing her off.

I'm so fucking relieved, I was dreading Whitney since I started this playthrough. I got really lucky though since she didn't milk drink once.

The Smogonites rates Clefairy as a top tier pick for an efficient play through of FRLG for a reason:
1) It’s got good defensive stats. 95/73/90 with a single uncommon weakness is nothing to scoff at pre-DPP, especially when Clefairy can evolve in the same dungeon you catch it. Just leave it away from Bruno and the Fighting Dojo, yeah?
2) Clefable has a stupidly wide move pool. Defensively, it gets Minimize, Sing, Screens, Cosmic Power, and Moonlight. Offensive boosting can be performed with Calm Mind and fucking METEOR MASH. As for direct attacks, Normal-STAB isn’t all that great on this thing, but if you can cough up enough coins, it learns every. Single. Game Corner TM. Even just the three Special moves provide perfect Neutral Coverage against all but Rock. Not to mention all of the TMs sold in stores, despite these moves being Physical. If you can kill enough shit Clef can feasibly carry a different move set for each Gym/E4 member.
3) It’s adorable and a total shitmon bro prior to XY so we all love it.
4) it comes early in the game and you can cheese it as a guaranteed encounter in FRLG or LGPE depending on your previous Champs list.

-TWave (parahax)
-Smack Down (STAB that also benefits your Ground Attackers)

Just had a rather epic fight against a Team Rocket with a lvl 16 Raticate. With my team at low HP, I had to switch around constantly to prevent a potentially strong STAB attack. It came down to Saurius, who could have potentially died had his Vine Whip not finished off Raticate.

But the battle made him evolve.

In my case, it was in White, when I caught a Throh in Pinwheel Forest and named him Jude. He ended being one of the best members of my team, even surviving to the end of the game, solo’ing Marshall. He was amazing, even though I was disappointed at catching him, because I wanted Timburr.

Ariados was far and away not amongst my favorites before this set of runs. Now I consider him one of the best early captures to get in GSC simply because it's possibly the best Poison type outside of Gengar. Psychic, Giga Drain, Night Shade, Dig, Leech Life, Thief, Curse, Growth, and Hidden Power make up one of the coolest movepools in GSC.
