By the way, before someone tries to argue it, I'm not even making the argument it should have them all, just pointing out doing so obviously means some people are going to be less inclined to buy it like a certain pair of games released last week.
In fact, I've argued mostly the opposite. If Game Freak just went back to 2D and took their time and let people have the ability to do 3D it would drive sales of such games better because there'd be another reason to buy them like there used to be.
Instead people are now forced to look to them because they refuse to let them happen. Because they want to be everything but are not competent or are not willing to take the time to do so.
Side series during years where no main series were released worked just fine and were better for the longevity of the series because they weren't oversaturating their own fucking market or forcing themselves to pump out incomplete, half-assed, contentless trash.
Pokkén probably would've done better with more time for support and no competition from the main series alongside using shit like the Game Corner in the main series to shill it with a minigame which is what the Game Corner should've become rather than being removed. Especially since just having it as more content would've made sense.
All in all, Game Freak has a gun with unlimited ammo aimed at their own foot under which lies the logo for the series and they can't stop shooting.
