>>41396377Gen 2 is the generation I have the most nostalgia for. I played Red first as a kid and loved it, but Gold was the first Pokemon game I played where I was old enough that I could really understand it.
I cant remember the exact squad I used the first time, but I have quite a few memories of different mons I became attached to over multiple playthroughs. I used each of the starters at least once, though the Cyndaquil line was always my favorite. Still is my favorite starter. Ampharos was almost always on my team, I liked him so much that I was devastated when I played Crystal and you couldn't catch Mareep, so I would trade one up from my gold thanks to having a gbc, gba, and a link cable! I would usually go get the Lapras and use it on my team too. The rest of the squad varied pretty wildly, though I have memories of using the likes of Victreebel, Quaqsire, Sandslash, Hypno, Nidoking, Golem, Jumpluff, Forretress, Pidgeot, and the Red Gyarados. There were also a few times where I didn't pick Cyndaquil as my starter and ended up trading up a Charizard from Red, seeing as there were no decent fire mons in Johto.
Crystal remains to this day the only game in which I've ever completed the Pokedex. To this day most of my favorite mons are from Gen 2, and I still play it pretty regularly thanks to an emulator on my phone! My most recent team I beat Red with was Meganium, Alakazam, Gengar, Heracross, Steelix, and Politoed!
