Geodude. Literally just a rock with arms. There are some really simplistic animal Pokémon like Pidgey and Dewgong, but at least birds and seals are cute. And there are other Pokémon that are simplistic looking or are ugly, but at least have interesting concepts. Voltorb is simple but is based off a poke ball, Mr. Mime is ugly, but a mime. There’s nothing interesting about a gray stone.

I like the theory of a Voltorb being a Gastly/Haunter/Gengar that was trapped until it merged with a Pokeball, it explodes and constantly looks pissed because it actually is pissed that it was left with a fate of being stuck as a ball.

This is the worst gen 1 design, by far. It literally is just a mountain lion with a jewel on it's forehead. Thank fuck, Galorian meowth evolved into something else.

It's amazing the way they managed to take the maneki neko design and just fucking toss it out. My girlfriend started playing Sword after having only played Pearl and so nearly all Pokemon are new to her and from Gen 1 to the newest gen she was remarking on how many Pokemon just get uglier and look worse on evolution and trying to see through non rose tinted goggles she's entirely right
