I feel like the shiny odds from eggs was buffed.
Lots of people getting shinies after a few dozens of eggs, I got an Applin on 28 and a Dreepy on 36. That feels too common.
Anyone else?

My hunt is OPs pic, and OPs pic is how I feel. I started launch day, and I'm still on route 1 trying. I went and saw Hop, been to Route 2 for a G-Zig, but that's as far as I am, because I decided I wanted a shiny Rookidee, and have been killing away ever since. Already way post 999 battles, chain of who tf knows, but well over 25. No luck yet.

I had a shiny Darmanitan pop up in a 5* raid and ended up using my master ball on it out of fear of it escaping? Did I make the right call with using my only master ball? It ended up being jolly with HA and great IVs so I can’t complain too much I guess.

It took 1,478 eggs to get him, but I finally got him this morning after doing a giveaway of a bunch of the extras while I released box after box.

Been soft resetting since launch night for a shiny Grookie. At 3183 encounters and going. Shit takes forever because of no soft reset button combo.

Managed to chain Excadrill after 220ish attempts. Was between gyms 3 and 4 I think. All my mons were level 60 by then lol.

Should I even bother with trying to chain Ponyta? 10% appearance rate, and only a grass spawn (no glowing IV aura overworld spawns). I'd likely be better off waiting to try and get a foreign mom in its egg group to Masuda method, right?

They didn't know where the chain would fit or if it had anything to say at all, but that there was a chain for something in the game. Now that we know it influences Brilliant Pokémon, we know that there isn't a chain for shinies.

Shiny hunting in SwSh is as simple as: "Catch or KO a lot of the species to get higher odds with that species"

How does it work outside the wild area? I'm 500 plus encounters with Wooloo, caught 25 of them and still haven't found a shiny of it I wanna know if I cut the game off will I have to catch another 25 or if I start fleeing form them instead of defeating them will that break my chain,too?

As someone trying to do Sinistea which shares the same conditions as Ponyta it fucking sucks. No foriegn ditto to even try to breed mine and check myself if you can breed an authentic Sinistea instead of only catching.

Posted this last night as well but may as well repost.
Surprise traded till I got a japanese Dubwool to act as a Field stud and got this cat after 65 or so eggs.
While I was trading, I also got a japanese male Honedge so I'm going for Yamask now. Got one box in last night and will keep it going after work tonight.

Bottom line is: Chances of Square shinies are only increased during chains. This means that neither animation is "rarer" than the other, they just denote which method was most likely used to obtain them.

Assuming the 25+ chaining is fishing only (which makes sense to me) then going by what's on serebii (I know, not the best source) gives us a 3% chance of 6/4096 odds at 500+

did some maths. this means without the shiny charm, and at 500+ encounters, the rate averages out at 1 in 3561, which fits with what you're saying and fits with my experience so far.

The website's wording is confusing; the page highlights the Wild Area but the section on shinies itself doesn't, and nowhere does it say it's Wild Area only.

Specifically, I'm getting this from the datamined stuff. the datamining mentions that the 500+ has a chance of a reroll and a number of rerolls. the 6 rerolls for 500 matches here - that would give what the official site mentioned - but the 3% chance hasn't been mentioned. if it's in the code, then it's in the code. but a permanent 3% chance of 6x the chance makes a damn site more sense to me than permanent 6x shiny chance.

Parasect and Breloom tied for second, having spore and false swipe, but both of those got cut as well.

best I can find is gallade with hypnosis and false swipe, which is shit. I've not run one of those since gen 4.

hatching eggs fast is easy, you just bike in a circle near the daycare in the wild area and pick them up when the worker crosses her arms. you can pick them up even if you have a full party. have five eggs in your party and one pokemon with flame body. ez

"Injectors" just means people who hack in pokemon; the switch hacking scene is wide open and with pokemon especially it was instant. up to you if you consider breeding with a hacked mon to be legit.

I guess I got really lucky with the meowth. Doing this without Oval or Shiny Charm, but it's going fairly quickly still. Only 2 runs of the bridge to hatch them. Filling a box every 40 minutes or so.

At least chain doesn't matter for Dexnav. Caves are shit though, Dexnaving for a shiny Unown was like pulling teeth. You can bounce on the acro bike to recharge the Dexnav without using steps to keep from wasting repels if you aren't already aware of that.
Hordes might be a better idea if you're about to break, like that other anon said, but at 999 encounters, if you have the shiny charm it's only 1/173 odds for a shiny per encounter, compared to horde's 1/273. Hordes are less bullshit to do than cave Dexnav though, fuck I'm dreading when I go for Lunatone.
