Personally I gave them a pass because it was the 3DS and I was ok with expecting little from them.
With the Switch any lack of quality is completely on purpose and that is insulting for me as a consumer.

I didn't buy USUM or LGPE. I sadly did buy normal Sun, only because the promotion for it was fucking insane. The trailer was enough to get you hyped at the time, and those trailers that had the Japanese kid move to Hawaii and make friends and have adventures with some of the local kids were top tier comfy. It was my last shred of optimism after ORAS, and that immediately faded when USUM was announced.

I pirated SM and USUM and got Y and OR for free from my friend that was pissed off because of how bad these games were.
Honestly, i never purchased any Pokemon game first hand. My Diamond, Black 2 and Yellow are all bought used and rest of the games i proudly pirated.
