Dynamaxing is fun visually and it doesnt need an item.

Also yoy can do it on any pokemon, so that's a plus. Gen 7 tried that but added cringe dances.

i dont understand it sometimes, did a raid the other day used dynamax + max mindstorm did about 5% hp. Used psychic when dynamax ran out and did like 60% damage

What Dynamaxing has going for it is that it isn't exclusive to a few Pokemon (Megas) and that it can turn the tide of battle or help you wipe a team you'd win anyways.

Gyarados and Ditto meta is stupid though

Every mon can do it, which makes a lot of mediocre mons somewhat viable. You never know what pokemon will dynamax, can't just be like "oh he got a Blastoise, so this is his mega".

Dynamaxing does seem broken at first, but it really isn't that strong. BP 150 Moves (mostly 130) are not that strong, although the secondary effects can be quite bothersome. Lasts only three turns, can be stalled by your dynamaxed Pokemon (stupid idea desu) or just by a bulky mon with protect (absorbing 50%). Can still get burned/put to sleep etc.

Makes battles far more interesting.

They don't, but depending on Rank (1-5) the have more barriers or they start sooner or whatever.

So you can't just oneshot with x4 weakness.

I want to agree with you, but there are some interactions I see that make me question it’s balance. If you’re stuck in a choice item “just d-max”. Wanna negate protect? “Just d-max” did you get hit with a status move like taunt “just d-max” granted it gets you to waste it but the amount of damage you do is never not worth it.

It would have been interesting if they unironically made an in game lore choice that mega evolving and a moves were just offshoots of dynamaxing and that this is the source of that and all that. They already even went halfway by including gigantamaxing. As is it ruined continuity and I hate it for that. Or maybe make dynamaxing the predecessor and people started to figure out how to harness the energy better with research and that led to variants in different regions.

Ironically though, I don't enjoy using them, just facing them. So I'm going to do my run without ever Dynamxing or Gigantamaxing.

If you ever land an attack and then immediately afterward they put a barrier up, that means you hit a hard limit of how much damage they can take before putting that barrier up, which can make it seem like your attack didn't do much.

How does it make them somewhat viable if everything can do it? Does Kingler become more viable with this? No, because Gyarados can also dynamax and is better in every way regardless.

Higher star raids have their HPs segmented, so for some mons you cant do more than 20% of their HP in one hit until the shield appears. Once it breaks you can only drop their HP down to 50% before the shield appears again.

After all mega stones have come from space and from evolutionary stones being exposed to the energy/power of legendary Pokemon
Pretty easy to say Eternatus' energy is capable of creating mega stones/wishing stars are unrefined mega stones or something. His energy that causes dynamax could interact with Pokemon that have the potential to mega and forces it to occur. Just leaves explaining gigazard/pikachu/eevee/meowth as they muddy things if they decide to retcon these things into something more consistent internally.
