GF did some decent animations for the more popular mons and stronger moves, as usual. Theres still a massive disconnect with others though...

Cinderace's Pyro Ball comes to mind, but shit like that isn't common. A lot of the animations are still "Rotate the 3d model a little and play an effect on the opponent"

It doesn't make sense because, to move back like that you would have to shift your weight onto your other leg.

But that would require more complex animation (torso turning, landing on back leg, lunging forward) so they just....move the model back a little to simulate it.

Pretty much. Like how they make the pokemon bob backwards a bit when getting hit by a move. It looks retarded and lazy. But I guess that describes the games and GF as a whole.

cinderace's pyro ball animation is actually kino. but anytime a pokemon uses sweet scent in a trainer battle you always see the trainer pop in after the animation ends.
