Have that move an option in singles. The option comes out only if you have the other pokemon in your party. Attack stats can be based off the partner pokemon hp, status, and stats.

Triple battles were just shittier versions of double battles. Every single battle gimmick Game Freak has tried since then has been shit. Megas would have been a decent idea if they stuck with it over several generations and tried to balance them out, but they just gave up on them when gen 6 ended.

First the gimmick was evolution-based, then move-based, so I really thought Gen 8’s gimmick was going to be something with types, like adding a temporary third typing or something.

Rotation battles should have been the gimmick of Sword/Shield, to fit with the football stadium idea. Have the pokemon in reserve offering an offensive and defensive bonus to the pokemon in the lead position.

sorry pal, the actual next gimmick is unique use items that permanently make all of your pokemon's moves bypass defense and/or always be super effective. you can have them on every pokemon in your team, they don't take up an item slot, and can be used in both the battle tower and online
