Except the question isn't about a dex cut, it's about a franchise cut. Rotational dexes != cutting the Pokemon from the series.

Watching some webms isnt playing the game anon. Theres a hell of a lot more animation than pokemon hopping around. They had to add walk cycles, facial emotes, camp animations for all the mons as well.

The shift to 3d exponentially multiplied the amount of work they need to do. 'Just 80' new animations for new mons is still a LOT of fucking work, if they dont cut, what are they gonna do when they want to add a new feature that wont recycle amie animations? After Pokemania ended Nintendo didn't really know what to do with the franchise. They initially tried to appeal to the core fans in the DS era but the games sold way less than they were expected to with how much the DS sold so they started aiming for the casual audience starting with the 3DS and it's working. SM sold great considering the low sales of the 3DS. So they're gonna keep making games for that audience.
