gamefreak fucking trolled us again.
the so called"nature-mints" only change the fucking stats. if your pokemon is hardy and you want a gentle mon, it will still stay hardy after giving it the gentle-mint.

You can change whatever you want. I gave the Orbeetle I caught in route 1 and used all game perfect IVs, the ability to gigantamax, and fixed its EVs that were all messed up from playing casually

There is a guide for setting up Atmosphere as well, and either would work
After you're able to run homebrew, use checkpoint to export your save to the SD card, download PKHex, which automatically loads the most recent save it can find on the SD card, make the edits you want, then overwrite the save on the SD card and put it back in the switch, load that save with checkpoint, and you're done

In the case where you're just exporting/importing your save for PKHex, you're not actually hacking the system, just loading a custom firmware temporarily in order to run homebrew.
As long as you're offline the entire time and you don't do anything other than run checkpoint you'll be fine.

People have known how to set up homebrew on their Switch, dump games, and decompile them for a while now. Sword and Shield aren't even the first Pokémon games on the Switch. Tools exist for modding Switch games as well.
