Bede and Marnie already act as gym leaders in the post-game, and Sonia was more relevant than her grandma to begin with. There is really not much else they could do with these characters.
SwSh are flawed games, but I think they're headed for the XY treatment given Eternatus already being maxed out and TRs phasing out Move Tutors.
