The second line is actually what I felt while playing LM3. I wasn't feeling like I was having fun, at least not actively, I didn't have this feeling of "oh man I'm having a blast :DDD" but even so, I would always find myself playing hours on end without even realizing. Just long sessions where I wouldn't put down the Switch and kept thinking "One more room! One more enemy and then I'll sleep! Okay okay but first I need to see this new floor!". I was completely immersed and didn't realize it, I hadn't felt like this in so long, the game was so interesting that it completely sucked me in, all while I was thinking that I *wasn't* having fun. It's like.. a subtle kind of fun that's not forced or short-lived.

I'd disagree with the characterisation of "fun" as a buzzword, given that buzzword means a word that's trendy, while fun is a concept that transcends trends. However, he's right that fun doesn't measure anything, and each player's idea of fun is not necessarily transferable to other players.

I remember asking OP if "comfy" and "fun" were the shills' new buzzwords. Then another dude replied with "try to say something good about the game without saying "fun" and everyone literally changed the word "fun" for "enjoyable".

It's a bit of an autistic way to put it but there's pretty much no denying at this point that people who like this game can never say in meaningful terms what's actually good about it. It's always:

They never say exactly what makes it fun or enjoyable or comfy. You would think even something as braindead easy as "I got really attached to my starter" or "the trainer customization is great this era" would pop up more often, but no, it's always just "I'm having fun" and that's fucking it.

It's because what's fun about SWSH is the basic structure of Pokémon. You catch Pokémon, use your favorite ones, fight random battles, fight trainers, fight gyms, evolve your Pokémon, fight the champion. This is fun. It pretty much ensure that Pokémon will always have, on some level, a decent amount of fun; the basic structure is just too good to fuck up. But that basic structure is in EVERY Pokémon game, it's not unique to SWSH at all.

Pretty much, but that's why casuals eat it up. They just want the basic structures. Everything else is not important to them.
The only noteworthy, non-subjective good feature that SWSH has is raid encounters.

Yes and no. Fun is a subjective thing. It's fine to say things like "I have fun" when people asked why you're doing a certain thing. It's NOT fine however, when you're pitching the game to someone else, since it essentially becomes "I have fun, and you will to" which is dumb and stupid. Something I don't get is, if it's impossible to fuck up, why haven't I enjoyed any of the romhacks or fangames I've played? They all feel like they're missing something compared to the actual Pokemon games, fakemon or no, and I'm not sure what. It's not "SOUL" or whatever since most of the creators clearly care and put a lot of effort in to their projects, and the gameplay itself is typically on-par with the main series at least. What the hell is missing?
