I haven't gotten any yet but i'm trying to get a ditto for masuda method. Is wonder trading really the best way?

Just got my shiny charm. Currently chaining Impidimps. I'm constantly entering and exiting Tangle Wood or whatever it's called because there's a guaranteed Impidimp at the purple mushroom. I'm pretty sure that's the best place to chain him since leaving doesn't break a chain.

So I'm confused. Currently 'chaning' tympole in the wild area.

I'm just killing them, grinding the 500 kill encounter.

Despite my 'chain', I've only come across Brilliant tympole once or twice. The rate isn't improving like the website says. I know that Brilliant isn't Shiny, but I don't feel like I'm getting any closer.

Tips on wild area shiny hunting?

Not sure if any news has come out since then, but back then basically it's like there's a 1/16 chance of a shiny being a square shiny when bred or found in some other way.
However, due to the way the game's coded, this chance is flipped with wild encounters. They're a 1/16 chance of being the stars instead.

A lot were shitposting about GF being incompetent again over this, but I could totally see this being an issue they found and just decided to leave in since it creates a difference between shiny hunting and shiny breeding.

There aren’t any “ultra” shinies. You either wild encounter for squares or breed/raid for stars, with a small chance of it being the opposite one (which ultimately allows you to bluff and say you got it the “rare” way anyway.)

The odds were outlined on the official website – chaining does nothing for shinies, only applying to auras while fishing. The datamined chain odds of [2, 5, 10, 25] matches up with the listed aura “multipliers” of [1.3, 3.3, 6.6, 16.6], off a base aura encounter rate of 1.5% (multipliers were likely given to avoid showing us the raw percentages as datamined).

Random encounter = Shiny has the (new) sfx pattern of spinning squares
Anything else = Shiny has the classic sfx pattern of stars

Pelipper is pretty awesome since last gen, due to drizzle acquisition. I found a shiny pelipper back in Sun/Moon which is when I discovered its potential. If your wingull has Hydration then you already got it made.

It’s alright anon, I’ve done and thought the same a few times but after some testing I realized that the eggs are only generated once they are added to your inventory and are uniquely generated. Ergo the declined eggs never existed/rolled the odds at all so there’s no reason to worry.

Aura rate increases a bit with battle count like shinies, but has its own tiering system for fishing. As the general aura rate caps at a fairly low increase (1.5% bumped to 3%), it should feel random and infrequent either way.

Do you guys fill up your boxes until you find your shiny and then release the other pokemon or do you release them as you go? I filled up about 4 boxes when I started my shiny hunt for Eiscue but now I just release the ones that aren't shiny and I've lost count of how many I've hatched

It needs to happen. It can't be a simple item like the Capsule because then people could get HAs before GF decides to actually release them. I think the best way to do it is similar to how they handled parents learning egg moves. Have a special HA held item on a Pokemon, put it in the daycare with the Pokemon lacking in the ability, and then it will overwrite the regular ability with the HA. That way you still have to get a hold of the HA Pokemon first.

Where applicable, sure. In your case, Magic Bounce is certainly a game-changer and can be hard to think of not having, but this pokemon isn’t without their strengths – her stats are perfect for trick room and is menacing enough to field in general with that massive Sp Atk, as only Steel will really wall her off. Trick room doubles or even tanking with anticipation seem like valid options.

I'm a little naive so bear with me. What I had in mind was leading a double with her and maybe chandelure. I think of the two, most would assume the trick room carrier to be hat. So I could either bait with protect and have chandelure set up trick room or the opposite for any immediate threats?
Also how does anticipation help in tanking?

She has solid defenses, so anticipation will let you know if you can stay in to absorb hits as she should have better odds in a neutral typing battle. Possibly pressure a switch-out, wall off special attackers with calm mind or even assault vest. However you were to build that strat should you try it.

Sorry I forgot your first part, which sounds like a good read as long as you believe your opponent will target her first. Both of those picks have ridiculous Sp Atk so focusing one could be a hard choice for the opponent in general, just depends on their moves.

On a related note to this, I am now debating on what ball to use to catch it. I was going to do Dusk Ball, but the tried and true Premier is always good. You need a hacked Switch, but if your Switch is hacked then you can say goodbye to playing online. So you'd basically need two Switches unless you exclusively play offline games. Also only first year Switches are vulnerable to the homebrew exploit.
Breeding or chaining would unironically be easier.

So is shiny hunting in the wild even worth it? I heard Masuda Method is faster but want to know what you guys think. I have a shiny charm so that helps. I hate breeding shinies but if it doing the 500+ method sucks as bad as some are saying it does then I’ll stick with breeding. Pic related is an accidental full odds find 70 hours into the game.

MM is faster by virtue of eggs being much faster+easier to handle this time without the 500 prep time, just some lucky connections getting your foreign mons together. It also has the upperhand of breeding HAs whereas hunting of course has 0% chance of HA.

If you have a pokemon with ability Run Away to escape any strong Pokemon, you can reach first daycare once you come to wild area.
There's also second daycare after 1st gym but this one take a while to reach.

It doesn't matter the method, odds will be the same:
-no charm: ~1/683.08
