I still don't fully understand Rose's plan. All they had to do was power up Eternatus and then someone had to catch it?
How does that solve the "energy crisis"?

Galar operates on Dynamax energy which had been gathered from a longass time ago when Eternatus was still awake, and was so abundant that they were running on the residual energy to this day and could for a thousand years more. Rose wanted to capture Eternatus so that they could harvest that energy directly from the source and didn't believe such a perfect chance (strong trainer like Leon, leader with ambition) would ever happen again and wanted to do it.

As for why he had to do it THAT SAME DAY he's apparently an insane nationalist and saw it as his duty to do it RIGHT NOW

It would have been good if he seriously was a normal person for the whole game and asked you and Leon for help but then shit would go wrong during the experiment.
