Just like how a fun game can be called a bad game.
Because i do not like strategy base game and are boring, games like starcraft are still called good games
And specially for a franchise where it's can compared to other title with the same aspect we can litteraly see the flaws of the game even better
Every Mario party can be fun, that's doesn't mean people call them awesome game and that's why we rank them
Fucking Gmod or Goat simulator got nothing of a super good game but you still got fun by fucking around.
Not fun =/= quality. There games who can have one of each both or none of these attributs.

We're talking about pointless features. Paper Mario 1&2 have few pointless features, even the optional ones gave you reward or gave you a challenge like the 1000 pipe floor or beat the Master Kung-fu toad
And it's even more a shame for Pokemon when fucking older games did that feature before and even better
