I'd like to know if Japanese fans consider Tyranitar a tribute to Godzilla, or if it's only Western fans who make this association.

Butterfree is also clearly inspired by Mothra, since they have the same head.

Not a kaiju but one of my favorite pokemons as a kaijufag I would love to see yamask evolve into a kaiju in the next generation. They could make something up about him possessing some fossils and turning into a spookykaiju

They are using it in the pop culture sense where Japanese people would probably say "daikaiju" to indicate that they are giant-sized like Godzilla. But no Pokemon are that big, so it would be weird to call them "daikaiju." Usually kaiju are perceived as being more destructive or malevolent compared to something like a "kyoryu," which is just a dinosaur.

I think the closest we can get to a daikaiju in terms of size is wailord (not including dyna/gigantamaxing) but he’s very obviously not a kaiju cause he’s just a big blue whale
