Because a mega evolution for a Pokemon that isn't even in the game isn't as egregious as what was in gens 7 or 8. And XY had an issue with Kanto pandering.

Hoenn remake was pretty much guaranteed at this point. It's completely different, than Kanto, who has otherwise no connection to XY, getting the majority of the Megas. That's pandering. You seem to be like the type of person who thinks Gen3 getting the most Megas is pandering. Or if Gen4 remakes are confirmed they their mons start getting lots of attention. All of those are completely different compared to Kanto pandering

It'd be different if they went and gave 50 exclusive Z moves and gigantamax forms to Sinnoh mons, but they don't do that. For every alternate form Lucario gets, Charizard gets three.

Rotom being used with the Pokedex is actually a really cool idea and pretty based from a lore perspective- people learning how to use Pokemon to enhance their daily life and basically letting a poltergeist with electric properties power your cell phone solves the power issue of the phone and allows for better interfacing with our having to develop higher technologies.
It's just the implementation in game that sucked ass. If he shut the fuck up it would be one of the coolest things introduced in gen 7, but they fucked up entirely.

I think people fail to realize that it isn't just 1 mon. Charizard gets brought up often b/c he's the most blatant, inexcusable example but it isn't just him. Zard, Pika, Eevee, Meowth and even Mr.Mime in recent years have been pandered. Other gens have it too yeah, like Blaziken/Garde/Rotom/Lucario/Gren etc... but they're no where near the amount Kanto has.
