Since GO's success, Ishihara has been obsessed with mobile games and is convinced it's the future of the franchise. Home is another one of his attempts to cash in on the mobile market.

The reason they cut the nat dex was to ensure people would have a reason to keep subscribed to home. They expect you to buy a subscription then continue renewing it alongside you playing the mainline games. They will likely threaten players with deleting Pokemon unless a subscription is maintained.

Also, expect heavy monitisation in both home and sleep. Remember, Ishihara is a fucking dumbass old man that doesn't understand why GO was so successful, so assumes mobile=good. This is why masters flopped and why sleep will too.

it might make a moderate amount of money but how long until all of this shit blows up in their face regarding mobile?

In my opinion, it looks like they think home will blow up like GO did. I expect it to have more features than bank, like amie or a battling system, something like that. From interviews it's clear Ishihara wants to recreate GO but has no idea how the mobile market works.
