It's Sub Calm Mind Suicune but physical, with better typing, immune to toxic, can speed boost with dynamax, and has a reliable recovery move.
Defog sets are also a thing and it's one of the grand total of two Excadrill counters in the entire galar dex.

We can't compare usage and stats now. The time is too short since sw/sh came out. And it's pretty clear that a bigger samplesize leads to smaller numbers.

a perfect balance would be every single mon at like 0.0whatever% - the hundreds of mons all equally commonm to be on any given team
the worst balance would be 6 mons at 100% - every single team is the same 6 mons

the closer you get to the former and the further you get from the later, the more balanced it is
remember, usage means "percentage of teams using the pokemon"

Is there any chance that this could change any time soon? I mean, There's already been a huge drop-off of Gyarados despite how insane it seemed initially, just a few days ago you couldn't go a battle without seeing one.

Lando was on every team because he's incredibly good at fulfilling several roles, which opens up more room for creativity for the rest of the team. For example, Landorus can be both a scarfer and a general check to physical attackers at once.

Because gen 8 has no such Pokemon, you have to run the same 3-4 Pokemon to fulfill those roles instead.

Dynamaxing will be banned. Not today and not tomorrow, but before long. It's just too fucking stupid right now. Most of these high usage mons are about dynamaxing or countering it. Excadrill is a beast because both its dyna attacks are steel/ground, boosting both its defense and special defense. Combined with its natural bulk it's nigh impossible to revenge kill and is gonna sweep your ass. Similar story with Gyarados, flying boosts speed, moxie boosts attack and you're just tearing through shit.
And because everyone and their mom is getting boosted through oblivion, Ditto is a staple on nearly every team as the one counter to this shit.

I almost guarantee it's gonna get banned/put to ubers.

I doubt that the removal of Hidden Power and Pursuit improved anything, particularly the former means that a lot of Pokémon are now stuck with subpar coverage and unable to fix that.

It's a revenge killer that covers a lot of what Darmanitan doesn't, mostly. Its physical set is underwhelming, though, and that's what most people think to use it for since its unique attack is physical, so a lot of people come away thinking "oh, it's alright I guess"

Dynamax, Excadrill, and any one of the three big walls (Ferrothorn, Toxapex, Corsola) need to be banned. I also see Garmanitan and Dragapult getting looked at.
Dracovish is a more balanced Garmanitan, Hydreigon is a more balanced version of Dragapult, and Excadrill is too goddamn ridiculous with dynamax.

It outspeeds everything but scarfers, and Dragon Darts on the mixed set 2HKOs neutral targets with Life Orb. You don't need any other physical moves except Dragon Darts when you 2HKO the meta.
You can run anything in the remaining four slots since it's versatile. It has WoW and twave, access to hydro pump/fire blast/thunder, Shadow Ball, Hex, and U-Turn.

It was more centralized but people didn't care as much because the centralizing Pokemon were popular. Gen VII OU you had Lando (who people hated) and a bunch of Gen VII Pokemon with no history like kek, lel, bull, ashnigger, Magearna and Kartana. All the popular Pokemon from years past were pushed down in favor of these new mons.

Scarf is the best set because Icicle Crash 2HKos almost everything. It's a 3HKO on physically defensive Bronzong. It's one of the most powerful revenge killers this game has seen because even your switch-in is guaranteed to take at least 25% from it: no viable mon quad resists ice.
