I get that that's what GF was going for, and it was a neat idea in theory. However, it was pretty poorly implemented. It stops mattering after the second Gym, and it stops mattering even earlier if you catch a Grass type or a Pikachu.

If he used Growl while Onix used Bide (which he probably will do at some point), he'd have been guaranteed his victory. I'm not going to dispute that Charmander has a tougher time with Brock than the other two, but it's still not that bad.
