>>41479677This. Devs, either justifiably or not, don't trust the player to control the pace of the game via exploration. It's why games like BotW were impressive risks because it allows the player to essentially control the game's content and length. In a world of 10,000 kid oriented f2p high action and ADHD inducing games, making these kinds of design decisions can impact the longevity of games in the general public's tiny attention span.
What they need to realise is that being in control like that allows users to create their own content, as long as 5he mechanics and tools are substantial enough, and the fact that people can explore and have different experiences to other players means that content creation eceleb junk can actually be more interesting and last longer than just watching somebody play through the same story as everyone else. It's why games dominate over shows and movies at the base level and it's stupid to me that devs would prefer to go down this safer route, going against what makes the medium good in the first place.
I miss getting lost man. Hell do the linear story and handholdy cutscenes, but add the exploration as postgame or something, at least.
