A plot that, while surprisingly deep for a Pokemon game, is overly convoluted, a little too much unskippable dialogue (pretty much on par with gen 7), extremely hit or miss designs, and a very linear region.

Desu they're not cutscenes since they require input from the player to continue the dialogue meaning you're still interacting with the game instead of sitting back and watching a scene. Meanwhile Emerald literally has a in-game cutscene with Rayquaza in Sootopolis.

no one is forcing you to watch it, unlike the the sun and moon games where you had to watch the animations and motions of the characters without being able yo do anything to make them go faster like nebby crying or an npc slowly walking toward you.

So what's the point of every praising the story then? If you're just gonna skip it, why even bother paying attention to it? Without the story, gen 5 is definitely the worst gen, with its shitty designs and rivals who literally stop you every 5 minutes to battle, not to mention probably some of the worst animations the series has ever seen.

one of the problems of making cutscenes unskippable or not being able to make them go faster in any way is that it hurst the the replayability of any game because rewatching stuff you already have seen becomes a chore. Its easier to do with gen five by going to options to make the dialogue go faster and just press the button a repeatedly while sun and moon has nothing like that for the animations and cutscenes. Both games would benefit a skip button thought.
