Teambuilding is actually one of the last things you will learn to do properly.
You need a very solid understanding of the meta in order to teambuild properly.
Steal a team first and get very comfortable with it for a while.
Once you're somewhat competent start making minor adjustment if you feel you need to.
Eventually you'll understand common cores and what Pokemon have synergy just from observing others and playing against them, at which point you can probably build a half decent team yourself but it will by no means be perfect at first.
