The "antagonists" being both of your not so friendly rivals and the climax being the champion you personally know since the start of the game was a fine character driven story. If the Rose plot was relegated to a post game chapter like the Ultra Beast hunts or that Looker bullshit in XY I wonder if people would've liked it more.
